-Nanoparticles for CT Imaging. The development of nanoparticles (NP) provides new solutions to limitations of conventional contrast agents for X-ray computed tomography (CT) imaging. Lehui Lu (逯乐慧) and coworkers summarize the progress of NP-based CT contrast agents and provide an overview of multimodal imaging by integrating other imaging methods with CT, thus improving the precision and accuracy of diagnosis.

-Pd-catalyzed Aerobic Oxidation. For Pd-catalyzed aerobic oxidative reaction, direct oxidation of hydroquinone by air without a metal-macrocyclic electrontransfer mediator (ETM) was considered inefficient. Jan-E. Bäckvall, Man-Bo Li (李漫波)and coworkers report the first aerobic heterogeneous Pd-catalyzed allenic C–H arylation with catalytic amounts of benzoquinone without the need for an additional ETM.

-Organic Photovoltaics. Xiaozhang Zhu (朱晓张) and coworkers employ a convenient three-step synthetic route for all-fused-ring acceptors and obtain a new nonacyclic electron acceptor with extraordinary stability and promising performance. Based on a rational selection of electron-rich cores and electron-deficient terminals, a rich library of nonfullerene acceptors may be established for the application in organic photovoltaics.

-Organic Light-Emitting Diodes. Through-space π–π interactions have been employed to construct thermally activated delayed fluorescence (TADF) emitters. Zuo-Quan Jiang(蒋佐权), Guohua Xie(谢国华) and coworkers develop spiro-structure-based fluorescence emitters with a π-stacked architecture and restricted circumvolution motions, demonstrating a new route for the design of solution-processable TADF emitters.

-Graphene Functionalization. Fu-Gang Zhao(赵福刚), Yanying Zhao, Wei-Shi Li (李维实)and coworkers establish a reductive bromination method of natural graphite to prepare high-quality graphene sheets which possess regularly distributed Br groups and the intact hexagonal lattice of the graphene matrix. The brominated graphene material displays exceptional electrical properties and greatly outperforms its counterparts derived from bromination of graphene oxide.

-C–H Glycosylation. Gong Chen(陈弓), Gang He(何刚), Peng Liu(刘鹏) and coworkers discover a highly efficient stereoselective synthetic method of C-α-mannosyl tryptophan via Pd-catalyzed auxiliary-directed remote C–H glycosylation of tryptophan with simple mannosyl chloride. The utility of the method is demonstrated in the first total synthesis of an insect C-glycopeptide hormone.

-Carbon Dioxide Utilization. Light-driven CO2 utilization is one of the fundamental reactions in nature. -Bio-Inspired Protein Materials. Kai Liu(刘凯) and coworkers design and fabricate lightweight, stretchable, and mechanically strong protein fibers by electrostatic complexation between elastin-like polypeptides and DOPA based anionic surfactant. The mechanical properties of the fibers can be modulated by multiple supramolecular interactions, providing a new approach to the mechanical regulation of engineered protein fibers.

-Single-Atom Catalyst. Xi Wang(王熙), Jiannian Yao(姚建年) and coworkers fabricate a heterogeneous single-atom Pd/TiO2 catalyst by engineering the electronic structure of single Pd atoms on Ti0.87O2 nanosheet. The catalyst exhibits a high catalytic activity in a Suzuki coupling reaction at room temperature, surpassing the conventional Pd catalysts under the same conditions.

-Fast-Response Humidity Sensor. Yuanjian Zhang(张袁健), Lei Liu(刘磊) and coworkers report the discovery of anisotropic deformation of polymeric carbon nitride nanoribbons triggered by interacting with water molecules. By coupling the nanoribbons with carbon nanotubes via π–π interaction, such a delicate deformation could be efficiently converted into electrical readouts, which can be applied as a humidity sensor for real-time respiratory monitoring.

-DNA-Mimicking Polymer. The development of synthetic polymers that mimic the double-stranded helical structure of DNA is a fascinating topic in polymer science. Hong Yang(杨洪) and coworkers synthesize two norbornene monomers bearing adenine and thymine and prepare an optically active polynorbornene nucleic acid (PNNA) from their complex. The self-assembled morphologies of PNNA display nanofilaments and double-helix structures.

-Transition-Metal-Free Alkynylation. Chao Liu(刘超) and coworkers demonstrate an efficient photoinduced transition-metal-free alkynylation of alkyl pinacol boronates with alkynyl phenylsulfones as the alkynylation reagents and NaOMe or NaOH as the Lewisbase. Selective monoalkynylation of diboronates is achieved to keep one boryl group in the product for potential further transformations.

Hong Liang(梁宏), Zhen-Feng Chen(陈振锋) and coworkers synthesize four nonplatinum metal complexes with isoquinoline derivatives as ligands, and investigate their in vitro anticancer activity. -Fluorescent Nanoprobe. Effective real-time tumor monitoring and cell tracking are of great importance for precise diagnosis and therapy. Yen Wei(危岩), Jinying Yuan(袁金颖) and coworkers synthesize a new fluorescent molecule with AIE characteristics, and further fabricate organic fluorescent nanoparticles by using a nanoprecipitation method. Strong, recyclable, and long-term adhesion performance on a wide range of substrates originate from the reversible hydrogen bonding and supramolecular polymerization.
