BFA Bay Area Committee Holds First Plenary Session

The BFA Macao Committee for Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area Development (MCGBA) held its first plenary session via video link on January 13. Leong Vai Tac, Chairman of the Committee, delivered a work report and 10 Committee members from the mainland, Macao and Hong Kong joined the meeting. Li Baodong, Secretary-General of the Boao Forum for Asia made concluding remarks for the event.

In the report, Chairman Leong introduced the Committee’s achievements of 2021 and plans for 2022. He said that the Committee would continue to actively participate in BFA events and focus on the construction of Guangdong-Macao In-Depth Cooperation Zone in Hengqin while carry out research on relevant topics around the construction of the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area Development.

Secretary-General Li on behalf of the Forum, expressed New Year greetings to the Committee and fully affirmed its various work. He commended the Committee for effectively undertaking its function as the Secretariat's expert body and rendering important intellectual support. The Secretariat would continue to fully support the Committee and welcome Committee members to join BFA conferences, says Secretary-General Li.

Sio Chi Wai, President of the Macao Development Strategy Research Center; Ip Sio Kai, Chairman of the Macao Association of Banks; Lao Chi Ngai, President of Macao Economic Association; Song Yong Hua, Rector of University of Macao; U Seng Pan, IEEE Fellow; Wang Yi Tao, Chair Professor, University of Macao; Zhang Ke Ke, Chair Professor of Macao University of Science and Technology; Wang Tongzhou, Chairman of China Communications Construction Group Co.; Zou ling, Chairman of Tianjin TEDA Energy Group Co., Ltd; Lau Ngai Cheung, Committee member of Shandong Province of CPPCC (Hong Kong), unanimously expressed their honor of being Committee members.

As proposed by the Macao SAR government, BFA decides to establish the Committee under the framework of its Secretariat. Based on Macao, the Committee aims to actively promote the Forum and the Macao SAR to cooperate closely, and jointly promote the construction of the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area, moderate diversification of Macao’s economy and regional cooperation of Asia.
